Occupational Therapist
Originally from the West coast, Mikayla Pickering completed her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology at the University of British Columbia. She obtained her Master of Occupational Therapy at the University of Ottawa and fell in love with the city, so decided to stay.
Mikayla was drawn to Occupational Therapy by its holistic, strengths-based, and client-centred approach and has wanted to work in pediatrics from the start. Her love of OT is driven by the prospect of empowering clients to engage in the activities that matter to them and reach their full potential.
Mikayla is passionate about justice, equity, and inclusion, as well as disability rights and providing neurodiversity-affirming care to neurodivergent individuals. She is creative in her practice and loves finding the perfect approaches that fit the interest and needs of each child to promote their growth and wellness.
Mikayla is happy to provide therapy in English or in French.
When she’s not at work, Mikayla uses her chronically curious mind to study diverse topics such as geology and neuroscience. She loves the outdoors and enjoys cycling, hiking, swimming, rock climbing, and skating (she loves Ottawa winters!).
As well, she always has a few crafting projects on the go at any given time.
